There is an amazing array of fitness trackers available these days with pretty much all bases covered.

Great news for the sporty or health conscious folk that are out pounding the pavements and mountain tracks on a regular basis.

For others though these types of activity can be few and far between and wearing a dedicated fitness tracker just doesn’t feel honest. Enter the Fitbit Blaze. Crafted as a fitness tracker and shaped to look more like a smart watch it offers the best of both worlds. The Blaze will tell you not only how many steps you have (or haven’t) taken but it will also ensure you don’t miss an important phone call, message or calendar appointment. When it comes to multifunction the Blaze sets itself apart from the rest of the fitness dedicated devices.

See notifications on screen, like calls, texts, calendar events and push notifications from apps like Gmail, Facebook & more. As well as being able to control your music, adjust your volume and play, pause or switch songs from your smartphone with a simple tap all from the full colour touchscreen!

Paired with your phone running the companion app you can record exercise events, review your history, change the appearance of the Blaze with multiple watch faces and so much more. I’ve even been able to monitor my heart rate while playing computer games to see how intense they can really be and surprisingly gaming can be a substantial cardio workout at times.

The fitness side of the Blaze is no slouch either

Purepulse™ heart rate monitor, on-screen workouts, smartphone notifications, colour touchscreen, multi-sport tracking & connected GPS. Let’s also not forget that the battery will last about 5 days from a single charge.

For me the journey to healthy living is in its early days. The Blaze is enabling me to track and monitor what exercise I’m getting on a daily basis (which is far less than ideal) as well as my sleep patterns. From this I can make small changes to my day that will make big changes to my health and that is really what I need. Having used the Blaze for a few weeks without making any change to my usual routines I can see clearly where and when I can slip a little more intensity in or add a few more steps to a journey. I don’t believe that everyone is intended to live a life of gym visits and protein shakes. What I do believe is that there is always room for improvement and if a device comes along that can help to open your eyes to your shortcomings then you have the opportunity to make positive change.

A lot of us get into that work, home, work, home routine and don’t feel that we are able to fit more into our day

This is where a device like the Fitbit Blaze sneaks in to make small changes. There is also the social aspect where you can add your friends, compete in challenges and generally encourage each other to keep moving. This was kind of fun at first but it can be quite disheartening to see those fit friends make a mockery of your humble efforts. But this is a long game. No one loses all their excess weight and starts running marathons in a couple of weeks. I remind myself that even the sporting elite spend four years training hard at every opportunity to make the Olympics. I’ll be happy when I can start to jog without passing out. With the range of different straps available you can dress up or dress down your Fitbit Blaze to suit any occasion. I’ve found it a pleasure to swap leather straps to suit an outfit or to use the sporty blue silicon strap when I’m out and about. The Fitbit Blaze covers all the bases and does it in style.
