A must have for Dr Who fans : Dr Who TV movie out on BLURAY

Paul McGann is the Eighth Doctor and fans will be pleased to hear of the release of both his televised exploits and the Doctor Who 1996 TV Movie on bluray.

This double-disc set, packed with extras, includes his first outing twenty years ago in the TARDIS and his more recent adventure from the 50th Anniversary year, Night of the Doctor.

It was some 20 years ago that Paul McGann became the eighth doctor to take the controls of the Tardis. This Movie was intended as a pilot for a new series that sadly didn’t eventuate but it kept the spirit alive and was well received by UK fans with 9.1 million viewers tuning in to watch.

Produced as a joint venture between the BBC and the American network Fox, it was hoped to garner a much larger audience in the states and reinvigorate the series but with poor ratings in the US it was sidelined.

Sylvester McCoy reprised his role as the Seventh Doctor to complete a regeneration scene with the new Doctor, Paul McGann.

Despite playing the Doctor on screen for the shortest time of any actor, McGann was actually the Time Lord for the longest period – serving from 1996 to 2005 (beating off Slyvester McCoy by a matter of days).
