Facebook takes on Google Search

Tom Stocky of Facebook VP search announced this week Facebook’s new updated search that will see users searching past post history using keywords.

Unlike the Graph Beta search where Facebook users could search friends and posts using phrases, the new and improved Facebook search allows users to also search using terms (similar when searching in Google).

So using a popular search term ‘Ice bucket challenge’ Facebook promptly found every friend and page that used the term or posted a link that contained the term ‘Ice bucket challenge’.

Facebook stated “With a quick search, you can get back to a fun video from your graduation, a news article you’ve been meaning to read, or photos from your friend’s wedding last summer.”

At the moment its still a bit shit on desktop, however the search has first been rolled out to mobile, a move most likely strategic considering most users access facebook via mobile.  As the silly season begins to peak, facebook has chosen a perfect time to launch this added feature to the graph search,  As family and friends gather together to reminisce the year past, a search feature that allows users to access past photos, posts, shared articles and the like will be a welcome addition.
