Google Home allows free calling in the US

Google Home is the talking, organising digital robot servant for homes and it’s pretty awesome.

Picking up the Australian and Kiwi accent with extreme ease.

And while I’m still finding more uses for my own Google Home, the US is adding new features with hopes that it will be coming to Australia and NZ in the very near future.

Hands-free calling.

So you can just say to your Google Home ‘Call Mum’ and because Google Home recognizes your voice, you’ll reach your mum (instead of just any mum), thanks to the contacts on your phone, and all for free.

That’s right…no cost.

Call for free personal contacts, as well as millions of businesses across U.S. and Canada.

Hands-Free Calling on Google Home started rolling out last month to users in the U.S. and Canada.

All you have to do to get started is say “Hey Google, call…” and calls will be made over your Wi-Fi connection.

The recipient will see “Unknown” or “No Caller ID.” but by the end of the year, your own mobile number to be displayed.

However, if you’re a Google Voice or Project Fi user, you can already choose to have the person on the other end see your phone number by going to your Assistant settings accessible in the Google Home app.

In the meantime users in Australia and NZ just have to keep playing with IFTTT until its released,
