Its the year of VR – Mixed Reality to be released

This holiday season is about to get cray cray with VR as IFA (big huge German tech show) announcements begin which has already signaled 2017 year of the VR/AR.

With secrets beginning to leak, ahead of announcements, of various companies launching their own VR headsets.

Lenovo had unveiled at Disney’s announcement earlier this year a StarWars based mixed reality headset.

However, yesterday sparked an insane social drop of announcements ahead of the IFA talks.

Dell was the first to release a statement saying they had partnered with Microsoft holo-lens to bring a commercially viable VR headset the Dell Visor at a cost of $349.99 (headset) and $99.99 (controllers) or $449.99 (headset and controllers kit)

Sony PlayStation was the first to get a tweet out saying their respective VR bundle will be dropping down to $400 AUD instantly, the tweet actually ahead of the price change on the website.

Microsoft then released a statement a few moments later announcing a variety of Windows Mixed Reality headsets and motion controllers which will be available this holiday from HP, Lenovo, Dell, and Acer.  Headset and motion controller bundles will start as low as $399 and will be compatible with existing and new PC models starting at $499.

The headsets will also be STEAM compatible and designed not to be so cumbersome when it comes to set up.

So this brings us to the question….which headset is best if all the tech is the same?

Well apart from aesthetics,  that will probably depend on your choice of hardware and this is where you will start to hear the term “Mixed Reality PC”s” that will run the headsets at 60-90 frames per second come in.

So as we head into the Christmas and New Year period prepare for some serious hurt on that wallet of yours as VR and PC upgrades become a common theme.
